Police guarding crashed British helicopter attacked
12:27 Police protecting the crash site of a British helicopter in south Armagh were attacked with petrol bombs last night. A PSNI spokesman said officers were attacked with stones, bottles and up to 70 petrol bombs. There were no injuries, but two police vehicles were damaged.
Four PSNI officers and two British soldiers were taken to hospital after the Lynx helicopter went down in a field close to the border village of Crossmaglen on Sunday. Ambulance crews removing the casualties were attacked by youths throwing stones, fireworks and snowballs, the PSNI yesterday. Similar attacks were made on police officers.
Chief Supt Bobby Hunniford said today: "Thankfully no one was injured but the blatant disregard for human life is deplorable. This isn't the first time this has happened and it cannot be allowed to continue."
"In this era of wanting to move forward, it is totally unacceptable that police and other emergency services are met with bricks, bottles and petrol bombs when they respond to a call."

Hier un helicoptere de l'armee britannique s'est ecrase sur un village d'Irlande du Nord, et pas n'importe lequel: Crossmaglen dans le Co Armagh, l'un des bastions du nationalisme nord-irlandais. La reaction ne s'est pas faite attendre: les ambulances et secours venus porter assistance aux blesses (aucun gravement, aucun civil), ont ete pris sous le feu nourri de cocktails molotovs et caillasses en tout genre (dont des boules de neige!) par des jeunes des environs. Disperses, les jeunes ont remis ca quelques heures plus tard, persistant. On nous dit maintenant que la situation est calme.
Je n'ose pas imaginer ce qui se serait passer s'il y avait eu des victimes parmi les locaux. La paix est loin d'etre gagnee, il suffit d'une etincelle... si en plus l'Armee de Sa Majeste ne sait plus garder ses engins a leur place!
Esperons que ces agissements ne soient plus que les atermoiements d'un monde en perdition.

Un petit evenement sans importance au niveau mondial et pourtant lourd de signification.
